David Syre; Piano Heaven

In addition to being a prolific artist, who has created a large body of work in the last decade working from his 100 year old farm, David Syre also finds a connection with music. In 2018 David visited the PH Pianos flagship showroom on Bredgade in Copenhagen, where he discovered the Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano. Immediately smitten, David became the owner of a custom built PH Grand Piano which has since been placed in his Washington studio. David has described how his PH Grand Piano has added to the “Personality” of his farm and considers it simply to be “Piano Heaven.”

Amanda Palmer, the Open Piano For Refugees Event and The PH Grand Piano

At the end of October 2019 PH Pianos were delighted to loan a PH Grand Piano to the Open Piano for Refugees Event that took place at the Sceneindgangen Dance Studio in Copenhagen. The purpose of this event was to raise money for the DoRoMi social music school in Vienna. The DoRoMi social music institute provides music lessons for refugees and socially disadvantaged people.

Poul Henningsen (PH) first revealed his design for the PH Grand Piano in 1930. The PH Grand Piano represents an evolution in piano design that is still as ground-breaking today as it was in the 1930s. Today, the enduring popularity of the PH Grand Piano both as a piece of art and as a functional designer piano of the finest quality means that the PH Grand Piano has become as Danish design classic that can also be found in the Designmuseum Danmark.

Danish Design in the Heart of Hong Kong

Following the chance visit of a family to the PH Pianos shop in the centre of Copenhagen during the Winter holiday season, PH Pianos were delighted several months later to deliver a customised PH Grand Piano to their private residence in Hong Kong.

The PH Upright Piano: Poul Henningsen Piano Design For Smaller Spaces

In 1939 Poul Henningsen made a design for an upright piano featuring the same signature features as its larger counterpart, the PH Grand Piano. Poul Henningsen’s PH Upright Piano has the same design hallmarks of the PH Grand Piano: fundamental to the shape is a minimal body that is sleek, fluidly shaped and devoid of the hard angles expected of a standard equivalent ‘upright piano’.

The PH Grand Piano at The Scandinavian

Henning Larsen Architects envisioned the award-winning design for the clubhouse at The Scandinavian. The clubhouse offers stunning views over both golf courses and houses an extensive collection of contemporary art, including works by Ai Weiwei, Yoshitomo Nara, Ugo Rondinone, Franz West and Sterling Ruby.

The clubhouse at The Scandinavian is also home to another piece of ﬁne art: a Poul Henningsen designed PH Grand Piano.
